Cut-out plasterboard, screws
Collection Ginette Moulin / Guillaume Houzé, Paris
Dicksmith Gallery, Londres
Galerie Chez Valentin, Paris
Employing basic materials like gypsum board, George Henry Longly has created here a piece of sculpture on a human scale that seems to be waiting for some absent body. The minimalist structure deals with the gallery’s physicality straight on, with the artist working directly on the wall and taking into account the venue’s three dimensions (the two walls that form a corner plus the floor), albeit inversely. Like a reaction to the dry, austere quality of the object, the title is garrulous yet seems to have no direct connection with the piece. It is viewers, and their imaginations, who must rush into the gap between the two.
