Pedro Winter
Born in Paris in 1975.
Pedro Winter is a French music producer and DJ (Busy P), a symbolic figure of the electronic music scene, made Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2016. He grew up in an environment branded by alternative cultures such as skateboard, heavy metal and hip-hop. He discovered electronic music and rave parties at the beginning of the 90s, with the release of the global hit “Groove Is in the Heart” by Deee-Lite. Being a fan of such different bands as Kraftwerk, Led Zeppelin and Run-DMC, his musical universe is characterized by the mix of various genres. He started to mix in Parisian bars and clubs (What’s Up Bar, Folie’s Pigalle, le Palace) early on. Between 1996 and 2008, Pedro Winter was the Daft Punk’s right-hand man. Between 1998 and 2011, he travelled the world with DJ Mehdi, with whom he maintained a fraternal relationship. He produced disks and managed the career of the genius who disappeared too soon. In 2003, he created his own label Ed Banger Records and launched the careers of Justice, SebastiAn, Breakbot and Uffie. DJ Mehdi, Cassius and Mr Oizo joined the label at its beginning. Pedro Winter and his artists contribute to the French standing across the globe. For 25 years he has been campaigning for the French electronic music. The New York Times gave him the nickname of “Electro Music ambassador’s French Touch”. In 2018, he turns to artistic direction and to the conception of creative events through his new structure: Pedro’s Boutique. Music Machines is his first project and his first collaboration hand in hand with the Galeries Lafayette.
