A rare touch of color in Katinka Bock body of work, Farben der Augen meiner Freunde (My Friends’ Eye Color) is a watercolor whose gray, green, brown or blue tones suggest her recollection of the eyes of her friends. Given this artist’s interest in details and things people normally pay little attention to, the picture is like an impossible print. Its shimmering tones, on the verge of depicting a landscape, reveal the melancholy underlying a type of painting that appears abstract at first.
