Théophile Bader, the founder of Galeries Lafayette, knew that commerce had to evolve at the speed of culture and constantly reinvent itself in order to attract and surprise: it was he who commissioned the architect Ferdinand Chanut to build the immense dome on the Boulevard Haussmann in 1912, and who entrusted its decoration to the master glass-maker Jacques Grüber and the decorator Louis Majorelle.
Driven by this creative audacity, the Galeries Lafayette group is committed to creation by supporting museums and cultural institutions and by regularly inviting artists to take over the spaces of its network of stores for permanent commissions or temporary exhibitions.
Convinced that the multiplicity of views reveals the diversity of a place, the Group invites visitors to its shops to discover and feel the creative energy of their time, through new and inspiring experiences.
