Born in 1994 in Swaziland. He lives and works in Pretoria, South Africa.
Banele Khoza started out by studying fashion until he realized that he was more enthralled with drawing and illustration than fashion design. He then studied fine arts at the Tchwane University of Technology for Art Theory and Design History in Pretoria where he graduated in 2015. Deeply impressed by the work of Penny Siopis and by Marlène Dumas’ paintings, he developed watercolor drawings and digital illustrations, which are evocative of his own experience and questions about identity and gender.
In 2016, he presented his first solo exhibition at the Pretoria Museum of Art, in South Africa. For The Day That Comes he will present a diptych of paintings created for the exhibition.
