Étienne Chambaud
Born in 1980 in Mulhouse, France. Lives and works in Paris.
Étienne Chambaud's work is based on a conceptual approach to art that swings back and forth between literalness and allegory. Chambaud is interested in the relationship between objects, the contexts surrounding their appearance, the way they are named and referred to, the way their stories are told. The titles of his works make it possible to create meaning and develop keys for a metaphorical reading. As Chambaud sees it, a work of art does not need to be complete to be intelligible. What is important is the process of how it is formed, all that goes on before its existence and all that is to follow. In this regard then, his pieces enrich each other, in keeping with the principle of intertextuality.
