Artifice, simulacrum, paradox, these are the recurrent terms applied to many aspects of Delphine Coindet's sculptures. Devoid of all function, Coindet’s pieces are made up of forms that are both abstract and figurative and inspired by both reality and the history of art. The range of materials used creates contrasts of textures and surfaces where a number of opposites play out, shiny versus matt, soft versus angular, white versus color. Her works are disorienting, throwing viewers for a loop thanks to the unpredictable ways they occupy space, almost as if by chance or accident.
